Monk SpadeChinese Weapons

One of the exotic and beautiful displays of Chinese Kung Fu is in the performance of her weapons. Chinese Weapons diversity and effectiveness are legendary. The Pai Lum Tao system which is so well known for its fighting effectiveness is no exception to this legacy.

The use of weapons increase the comprehension of one's body in motion when holding a weapon, thus often improving a student's empty hand self defense. In Pai Lum Tao training weapons are considered extensions of the body.

Grandmaster Wilson is world-renowned for his expertise with weapons. Great Grandmaster Daniel K. Pai was quoted saying, "Glenn (Wilson) is our authority on weapons." Grandmaster Wilson trains all of his SiFus (Instructors) towards weapons mastery, including SiGung Jungmann at Rising Dragon Martial Arts.

While often shrouded in mystery, Chinese weapons are considered exotic because many of them were originally unusually shaped farm instruments of the peasant and monk, such as the agricultural flail, which today is known as the nunchuka. Pai Lum Tao teaches over 100 different weapons; in the Rising Dragon Martial Arts school weapons are taught as soon as yellow sash (see Class Information for ranking).

Students start with wood weapons such as the staff or the white crane sticks. Next they will learn metal weapons, such as swords and ring knives. Finally they learn wood - metal combination weapons such as the monk spade or three sectional staff. See the disciplines of Pai Lum Kung Fu, Bok Leen Pai Kenpo, and Pai Yung Tai Chi to view some of the weapons taught at lower levels.

Weapons are taught in basics, forms, two person forms, fist sets and even sparring. Students are offered regular weekly classes in weapons.
